Фюри като Гари Линекер "не знае какво говори" заради коментарите на Израел | Великобритания | Новини

- Би Би си Гари Линекер has been blasted after endorsing a video that in which an academic accuses Израел of « genocide ».

The video, produced by Owen Jones, features an interview with Raz Segal, an Israeli-American historian, with Mr Lineker sharing it and adding the caption: “Worth 13 minutes of anyone’s time.”

Mr Lineker came under fire for sharing the video, with one rant by podcaster James McMahon saying: « This wretched era has empowered some of the dumbest, but most arrogant people in class ».

In his conversation with Jones, Prof Segal – an associate professor of the Holocaust and genocide studies at Stockton University – said described Hamas’ October 7 attack as « horrendous », but argued the Israeli military’s response resembles « textbook genocide. »

After Mr Lineker shared the tweet, Mr McMahon said: « My general view on Израел and Gaza is that I’m appalled by what happened on October 7th, am worried about my Jewish friends, am deeply upset by what’s happening in Gaza and I’d like it all to end as soon as possible, with as few lives lost as possible.

« But what do I know? I know LOADS about the Ramones and mashed potato. I can talk all day about the Ramones and mashed potato. I don’t think anyone knows more about the Ramones and mashed potato than me. Hit me.

« Израел and Gaza? Not so much. »

« I’m reading a book about the history of the region at the moment. Maybe after I’ve read another FORTY OF THEM I’ll air an opinion, such is the complexity of the region. Right now I try to shut up about it. »

Stephen Pollard, the editor-at-large of the Jewish Chronicle, accused Lineker of « universe-bending ignorance ».

While Greg Smith, the Conservative MP for Buckingham, said: « It is inconceivable any right-minded person would give that video the time of day. »

At this stage in the Израел-Hamas war, around 14,100 Palestinians have been killed, according to Hamas-run media.

Mr Lineker has previously called for a ceasefire between the two.

It comes after Lineker earlier this month backed a pro-Palestine protest taking place in London on Remembrance Day, which then-Home Secretary Suella Braverman blasted as a « hate march » in a post on X.

But the former England striker said: « Marching and calling for a ceasefire and peace so that more innocent children don’t get killed is not really the definition of a hate march. »

And he previously sparked a major impartiality row at the BBC after describing Ms Braverman’s language as « not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s ».

The comments caused a huge uproar among politicians and political commentators leading to Beeb bosses suspending the presenter. It was followed by a mass walk out of Match of the Day pundits and potential hosts.
