Възмущение, след като купената от Amazon отрова помогна на британка да умре от самоубийство | Великобритания | Новини

A 43-year-old woman took her own life with a poison that was bought off Амазонка – having been heavily involved in an online forum which encouraged suicide. Chloe Macdermott, 43, made a pact with other members of the forum to all take their lives that night.

The Brit ordered the unnamed product from the US, having spent time on the Internet researching ways to die by suicide – an inquest heard she had been « struggling with mental health for some years ».

Paul Rogers, Assistant Coroner of Inner West Лондон, has written to US tech giants Google and Amazon to make them aware of the dangers of such easy access to lethal substances online. Rogers made them aware that the product had no restrictions in place to prevent children or vulnerable adults from buying it.

He also said the total lack of « prominent signposting » to offer help was an issue, and that there was not enough « effective administration » happening to remove harmful products from the website. Rogers also spoke of how it could get through « border and/or custom controls ».

Macdermott, meanwhile, was becoming « increasingly suicidal » and made a pact with two others to end their lives at the same time. On May 22, 2021, while her husband was away, she contacted the people and « an agreement was made to act that night ».

Chloe, and another Brit, ingested the substance around midnight between 22nd and 23rd May – Macdermott died in the early hours of the 23rd on her bed from the effects of toxicity.

Rogers has also sent his report to Home Secretary James Cleverley, Health Secretary Victoria Atkins, Culture Secretary Lucy Fraser, and the police – they have until February to respond.

Mr Rogers said: « [Online forums] encourage suicide, assist it by provision of information about suicide methods, counsel suicide by providing information about it and thereby potentially facilitate the commission of a criminal offence in the United Kingdom. »

He said the online forum in question had « no age or other restrictions in place » and « no prominent signposting to organisations from whom help is available to prevent suicide ».

In his letter to Google and Amazon, he said: « In my opinion action should be taken to prevent future deaths and I believe your organisation has the power to take such action. »
